FatStacks is a vintage club kit with small drums and a big sound. This kit can set the tone for a range of styles that need an organic, lively beat. It sounds good for R&B, hiphop, funk, raw drum’n’bass, and even acoustic tracks. With several mic layers to blend to your taste, the sound of the kit can go from snappy and clean to gritty and lofi with the twist of a knob. Four snare variations and two kick variations keep things interesting.
The kit is a vintage 1970s Gretsch maple in club configuration, with a custom Pearl micro snare, and a mix of classic Zildjian, Paiste and Wuhan cymbals.
SplitSticks is the same Slingerland 4-piece ’60s kit we used for Popsticks, but played with HotRods™ for a more laid-back and intimate sound – somewhere between the sound of brushes and regular sticks. Reduced velocity sampling means it uses minimal system resources. Close mic and room mic options give you scope to mix things up.
PopSticks is a tasty four-piece ’60s vintage Slingerland maple set, complete with a classic RadioKing snare. It has a natural played-in tone, with enough clarity to work in a contemporary mix, or it’ll go retro if that’s where you need to go. Close mic and room mic options give plenty of scope to fine tune the ambient balance.
Big Mono is a roomy rendition of a loveable vintage Ludwig kit with a Rogers Dynasonic snare, classic Zildjians, and a Sabian ride for good luck. Recorded in mono using a decca-tree configuration supplemented with spot mics for detail, this kit sounds organic and retro with a spacious vibe.
Oh, and it’s FREE.
Inspired by the drums of Motown, Stax and sweet R&B from yesteryear comes Monotown. It will drive home the beat to old school funk, soul, rhythm and blues. It also fits the bill for fresh tracks where organic production qualities are desired.
Five individually controllable mic perspectives let you dial the sound between 60s, 70s, indy, trashy or anything in between. Oh and one more thing… it’s mono.
